Man I had forgotten the days when mods weren't guaranteed to come off of items.
That really sucked.

actually in some battles I just DID have only 1 hp left... this is something you almost never see but 1 hp rly CAN save your life... also if you have 19% change on halve cast time you never know that 1% could've saved your life...
and equipment doesn't matter indeed... but as I said.. the stats of the weapons do..
with equipment I mean that a 15^50 3/-1 +30 tormented sword is "the same" as a q9 15^50 3/-1 +30 short sword for example..

No, I'm talking about all the conditional health gains that wont take you negative when they end, such as Endure Pain, or a Chrimson Carapace Shield +60hp while hexed. These will take you below zero when their effect ends, but instead leaves you on 1hp. This is why, not some coincidental survival by 1hpt luck.

I can just roll a perfect PvP character.
If I'm kitting out a PvE character for PvP, why would you put yourself at a disadvantage, no matter how small it is, for vanity's sake?

It's not the lack of functionality, it's just that the perfect versions are available enough that if you are going to buy an item, it makes sense to buy a perfect one.
Simply, better gear is available enough.

Because in GW the level cap is reached soon, and everyone can use maxed weapons.
It's not like other games where you must stick with level 10 weapons until you hit level 20.
Since people can get max equipment and use it right away, they want it.

I don't know if this answer will make sense but... Because a pvp character can't have a shinobi blade or a Flamberge. Oh! did I forgot the claymore?

What he said. "Disillusional" has nothing to do with this; there's not terribly much to buy, so you might as well buy the best if you have the money to do so. What else are you going to do with it?
Also, Steps, you didn't answer the question. He asked why you would put yourself at a disadvantage for vanity's sake....and you answered basically, "For vanity's sake."

Alot of PvP'ers PvE aswell, and there's Reward Points.
Heh, I even got laughed at for saying that my PvP 'Sin's armour was a PvP character, and told me I have no life because if you have 15k armour you're serious...

Am i so different?
Only perfect mods i have are ones i've found. Anything I buy or trade i go for +29 - 19/20 - everytime.
Is it just the PvP leets that *have* to have perfect mods?
Charr die just as easy if i have 449 or 450 health!!!
A few hundred gold v's a few plat - big diff. 1 health point not worth it imo.

I constantly find myself buying those imperfect mods for heroes, i've probably bought over like 30 +29hp staff wrappings for all my heroes account-wide.
I'd never buy a +29 or 20/19 or -5/19 for more than 1k though.

Skill is more important than equipment but why would you put yourself at any disadvantage, no matter how small? I can understand less than perfect mods in PvE but in PvP if you don't have perfect mods you better have a PvP slot.

Those use a similar mechanic to deep wound, so my point still stands. I have survived with 1HP from raw damage with no additional skills before. Who use endure pain in PvP? And if you are hexed and getting spiked, you might switch to a +60 hexed shield sure, but you don't switch back when you are still almost dead, lol. You wait till you are fully healed before switching back.

I dont know if alot of you guyz who say "i been on 1hp and lived often" know this, but deep wound cannot kill you, it will lower you're hp to 1 and if you get hit, or healed for less then your hp is below 0 you will die. So whilst you may have been on 1hp, whether or not the extra +1 from you're mods saved you is not guaranteed.
Also, for some reason, when degening to death, you live for like a second on 1hp, even with 10 degen on you. (Its wierd) so if you get healed from that kind of 1hp, its probably not you're shield either.
@ the OP
I didnt think guild wars claims to be skill > equipment, but rather skill > time.
This means that GAINING max equipment doesnt take long, so once you have it you're on par with those l33tzorz in fow & tormented weapons.
Now, does 1 hp make a difference, often no. However i have been in situations where it has, infact it saved my team from failure.
I use +30's over +29's because nowadays the most expensive +30 is sword at about 8k, shield 6k, axe 4k, rest 2-3k. Its faster to buy the max ones then the +29's because people know that the +30's are so cheap and dont bother attempting to sell the +29's.

They were jsut two of many examples, and you don't switch back, the hex wears off and you lose the 60hp. I see it happen a lot, I just think its funny when people say "oh, I survived by 1hp" when in reality they are probably -40!

.........you might as well have it perfect.
I actualy find it harder to get non perfect mods. People don't sell them.
